Specific conditions of participation

Open competition

In this competition we award prizes to wines of all kinds, with and without alcohol, and of all vintages. This is in response to the wishes of some winemakers who do not want to assign their wines to a specific theme. The best wines in each category will be awarded separately.

Admission

Accepted for the competition are:

White wines, red and rosé wines of German and international origin

Sparkling and semi-sparkling wines of German and international origin

Orange wines, natural wines

Non-alcoholic and reduced-alcohol wines

Non-alcoholic sparkling wines

Sweet wines

Port, Madeira and other liqueur wines

There is no vintage or grape variety restriction.

We are going to recognize the best sparkling wines, including champagne, and also the best producers.

We are going to recognize „The Sparkling Wine Producers of the Year 2024“ and the sparkling wine producers of each country and the best sparkling wine in each category. More detailed information can be found under the “Admission“ section. All winners will receive a certificate.

For many consumers the new vintage cannot be procured fast enough in the market. Therefore we have decided to taste the wines from the new vintage 2023 in a separate competition theme. Thus, our readers are quickly informed about who offers the first recommended new wines and how they taste.

In this tasting we are tasting wines which are being offered on the German market for the first time, which the winegrower bottled for the first time or wines who have an unusual label or name.

Admission

There are no restrictions regarding the grape varieties and vintages.

With this competition we want to introduce consumers to the world of PIWI wines.

We present the best wines and grape varieties in each category and the subcategories dry, semi-dry/fine, sweet/sweet and noble sweet as well as their producers.

Admission

All wines from the following categories are admitted to the competition. You can also enter different vintages of one wine that are still available.

Blanc de Noir without and with wooden barrel

Rosé wines without and with wooden barrel

Red wines without and with wooden barrel

Sparkling wines

Cuvées with at least 75 percent PIWI

Cuvées with at least 50 percent PIWI

Cuvées with at least 25 percent PIWI

There is no restriction on vintage or grape variety, and all flavours are permitted.

We award prizes to the best wineries in each region and to the best wines in the various categories. Because the designation “Old Vines” is like a small, fine brand. And brands are conducive to a purchase decision if they are communicated accordingly. For example, for gift seekers, no matter whether the vines are 30, 55 or over 61 years old, as a birthday present or for an anniversary, such wines are an unusual gift.

We award:

Old Vine Winery of the Year 2024 in the category 25 – 40 years of “old vines”.

Old Vine Winery of the Year 2024 in the category 41 – 60 years “Old Vines

Old Vine Winery of the Year 2024 in the category over 61 years “Old Vines

Old Vine Vineyard of the Year 2024 in the category “Old Vines”.

You can also enter just one wine for this competition. However, at least 3 products must be submitted for the Wineries of the Year. The 3 best wines are used to calculate the winery average, which is then used to determine the ranking. Wines from any country are admitted to the competition. There is no restriction on vintage. You can also enter different vintages of a wine that are still available, but only the best vintage will be included in the overall ranking.

There is an increasing demand for all kinds of non-alcoholic varieties. The taste of these products has also improved in the last years. So it is time to devote a separate tasting to this topic.

We present the best non-alcoholic products in each category as well as their producers. Those who submit at least three different wines, each scoring at least 80 points, can also be awarded the title “Best producer of non-alcoholic wines”. In addition, the best producers in each region will be identified and presented.

Admission

The winemaker must have a position responsible for head in the vineyard, be a manager or winemaker.

Of course, you can also submit only one wine to be a winner in a category.

To the competition „The Female Winemakers of the Year“ must be submitted at least 5 wines in at least 2 different categories. The 5 best wines will be used to develop a scheme on the basis of which the ranking will be calculated. You can also submit different vintages of the same wine, though they must all still be available for purchase. However, in this case only the best wine will be included in the overall assessment. The other vintages will, of course, be published if they achieve a minimum score of at least 80 points, and they will be published according to their ranking.

Wines from the “Sweet wines” category will not be included in the final rankings, but will be awarded separately. The winemaker has to submit at least 3 sweet wines. From the best 3 sweet wines, the result will be calculated, on the basis of which the ranking is formed. The winner of this category will receive a certificate for “Best Producer of Sweet Wines”.

This competition awards prizes for the best brandies, liquors and spirits and has been officially certified throughout the EU. Thus, award-winning products can be promoted via an official certificate as well as self-adhesive medals documenting the receipt of the award.

The contribution fee for each registered sample is only 75 Euros.
In addition to this, we also offer the following discount: You can now submit 6 spirits for the price of only 5 or submit 12 spirits for the price of 10. If you want to submit more than 20 spirits, please contact us: wein-textperten-whubert@t-online.de

General conditions of participation

The results are published on our website www.selection-online.de and in some cases on Facebook.

In addition, there is an advertising campaign in the online media of our publishing group in which we focus on our medals with the 2 to 5 stars. Your award-winning drinks will certainly also benefit from this.

All products that achieve at least 80 out of 100 points are published on our website and receive a certificate. Information about drinks that do not achieve the number of points required for an award will of course not be published.

If you wish, you can choose not to have your results published.

Every 6th wine is free of charge, with 12 wines you only pay for 10 ….!

Of course, this applies to all competitions (excluding competitions with separate entry fees).

The award-winning products receive a certificate and are portrayed on our online pages. Stars and points are awarded as part of the evaluation of the wines by selection:

2 star BRONZE from 80 points
3 stars SILVER from 84 points
4 stars GOLD from 88 points
5 stars GOLD TOP-LEVEL from 93 points

It is possible to order the medals as self-adhesive labels from the publishing house Konradin Selection GmbH and thus emphasise the product in question in the marketing.

This applies to all products published on the website.

The cost contribution for each hired sample is 65 euros (wine) or 75 euros (spirits)

The costs for a product are per competition. For example, if you enter a wine in two competitions, the costs will be charged twice. In return, this wine will be listed in both competitions and you will receive two different certificates. Please send in 3 bottles of wine for each competition, in the case of two competitions we require 6 bottles of wine. Please see the “Registration” tab below for the number of samples per product.

Register 6 products and pay only 5!
Of course, this applies across all competitions (excluding competitions with separate entry fees).
Prices may be subject to statutory VAT.

In fact, these fees are only a contribution to covering the costs, and we are proud – in the interests of the participants – to be able to keep them well below those of other competitions. We see wine tastings as a service for producers and readers, with which we make our contribution to quality wine thinking.

Please pay the participation fee immediately upon receipt of the invoice to the account indicated. We kindly ask producers and retailers from abroad to state the EU VAT number when registering their wines so that we can issue the invoice without VAT. Please note that you will then have to pay tax on the service in accordance with your VAT treatment.

Please do not enclose any cheques or cash with the samples. Please send information about the wines or other documents separately to: Wolfgang Hubert, – Tasting Manager – Bäckergasse 9 c, 90592 Schwarzenbruck

If the same beverage is registered by different organisers, the fee paid cannot be refunded. However, if the product is named, all suppliers will be listed.

Please complete a separate registration form for each drink you are registering.

Please enter the wine name, vintage, flavour and address details as accurately as possible. The information on the registration form is binding for all publications, so please also pay attention to capitalisation.

If you encounter problems during registration or if you wish to make a subsequent change to your already registered product, please send us a short e-mail to degustation@selection-online.com.

Only samples delivered duty paid and carriage paid will be accepted. Please do not send any drinks to our office address, as we do not have any storage facilities here.

The drinks are assessed professionally and neutrally by a panel of experts (sommeliers, winemakers, viticultural technicians, oenologists, wine journalists, retailers, restaurateurs and end consumers with tasting experience) in a blind tasting. The evaluation is based on the globally recognised 100-point system. Successful participation in this competition therefore means a high image gain for the businesses and, as a rule, an increase in demand due to recommendations on the Internet.

The evaluation forms are analysed by neutral persons and the jury’s decision is final.

All producers, importers and marketing companies that have produced the products entered in the competition themselves or are involved in their marketing are eligible to take part.

The organiser may exclude individual beverages from participation in the competition; there is no legal entitlement to participation. Products that are not submitted in time for the competition (see the respective closing date!) cannot take part in the competition.

By registering, participants recognise these conditions of participation. Place of jurisdiction is Stuttgart, Germany – Publisher: Konradin Selection GmbH, 55127 Mainz, Germany
